چکیده

This paper presents a novel image fusion method, suitable for sharpening of multispectral (MS) images by means of a panchromatic (Pan) observation, based on a modified generalized intensity-hue-saturation algorithm: the MS bands expanded to the finer scale of the Pan image are sharpened by adding the spatial details derived from a difference image, which is calculated by the Pan image and a linear combination of the MS bands. Since a direct, unconditioned injection of Pan details gives unsatisfactory results, a new injection model is proposed, which provides the optimum injection by maximizing a global quality index of the fused product. The optimum injection is driven by an index function capable to measure radiometric, geometric and spectral distortions in the fused images. Fusion tests are carried out both on spatially degraded data to objectively compare the proposed scheme to the most promising state-of-the-art image fusion methods (included two commercial software solutions), and on full resolution image data to visually assess the performance of the proposed genetic image fusion method.

Analyzing Multi-sensor Data Fusion Techniques: a Multi-temporal Change Detection Approach

An inevitable tradeoff between spectral and spatial resolution exists in remote sensing systems and it is essential to integrate information from systems with complementary characteristics to improve data interpretability. Panchromatic (PAN) sharpening is a data fusion technique that merges a high spatial resolution PAN image with lower spatial resolution multispectral images. The resulting mer...

Simulation of Pan-sharpening Using Hyperspectral Data to Evaluate the Method and Band Combinations

ABSTRACT: This study proposes a framework for simulating pan-sharpening using hyperspectral data in order to evaluate pan-sharpening methods and band combinations of panchromatic and multispectral data. This framework was applied to two pan-sharpening methods (block-SVR, Gram-Schmidt spectral sharpening) to characterize the spectral and spatial qualities of pan-sharpened images. Panchromatic im...

Variational Wavelet Pan-Sharpening

Pan-sharpening is the process of fusing a low resolution multispectral image with a high resolution panchromatic image to obtain a high resolution multispectral image. We propose a new pan-sharpening method called Variational Wavelet Pan-sharpening (VWP) that combines wavelet fusion and the edges of the panchromatic image as an energy minimization problem. Furthermore, we introduce additional e...

Satellite Multispectral Image Enhancement Based on Pan-Sharpening under NSCT

In real time remote sensing it is necessary to know the quality of images obtained from the different satellite sensors. Pan-sharpening enhances the spatial information of input raw multispectral images. This paper focuses on the evaluation and analysis of eight frequently used image quality assessment methods to determine the preservation of spectral and spatial integrity in the pan-sharpened ...
